Rules change often. Always confirm on the official website linked in each section before you travel. A-1 is a travel agency, not a government office: the embassy or the immigration officer makes the final decision on every visa and entry.

Check these first, for any trip

Passport valid 6 months

Most countries want your passport valid for at least 6 months after you arrive. To be safe, count 6 months from your return date.

Blank pages

Keep at least 2 empty visa pages. India asks for 2; Bangladesh, Turkey and Jordan ask for at least 1.

The right visa or seal

Check what your passport needs for every country on your route, including where you connect.

Your way back in

U.S. citizens return on their U.S. passport. Green card holders must carry their green card.

Bangladesh

For U.S. passport holders. Bangladeshi passport holders don’t need a visa.

U.S. citizens: get a visa before you go

  • A visa is required. Fill in the online form at visa.gov.bd, print it, and send it with your passport and documents to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington, DC, or the consulate that covers your state.
  • Visa on arrival exists at Dhaka airport, but it is not guaranteed. The U.S. State Department advises getting your visa in advance.
  • Passport: valid 6 months beyond your arrival date, with 1 blank page.
  • Carry proof of your return or onward ticket.

Born in Bangladesh? Ask for the NVR seal

  • The “No Visa Required” (NVR) seal goes in your U.S. passport and lets you visit without a new visa each time.
  • It is for foreign citizens of Bangladeshi origin, and their spouses and children.
  • You apply with the online form from visa.gov.bd, your U.S. passport, and proof of Bangladeshi origin (for example an old Bangladeshi passport, NID or birth registration). Spouses add a marriage certificate; children add a birth certificate naming the Bangladeshi parent.
  • Apply several weeks before a trip home; the Embassy lists current fees and processing times. For a child, read our step-by-step guide: NVR seal or visa for a U.S.-born child.
  • Dual citizens must leave and re-enter the U.S. on their U.S. passport.

  • Regular visas, OCI cards and Indian passport services go through VFS Global, the Indian Embassy’s service provider in the U.S. Dallas is covered by the Consulate General of India in Houston.

OCI card and the e-Arrival Card

  • If you or your parents or grandparents were Indian citizens, an OCI card may let you visit without a visa. Apply online at ociservices.gov.in.
  • Since July 8, 2026, new OCI cards are issued in digital form (e-OCI). Existing physical OCI cards stay valid.
  • Got a new passport? Update it on the OCI portal within 3 months.
  • e-Arrival Card: foreign nationals, including OCI holders, fill it in online within 72 hours before landing, at indianvisaonline.gov.in/earrival or in the “Indian Visa Su-Swagatam” app. It is not a visa.

Before you fly from the U.S.

Passports, ID and coming home.

U.S. passports and ID

  • New or renewed U.S. passports: routine processing takes 4 to 6 weeks and expedited 2 to 3 weeks, plus mailing time (State Department, September 2026).
  • You can renew online in many cases, but not if you travel internationally within 8 weeks.
  • For flights inside the U.S., adults need a REAL ID-compliant license or another accepted ID, such as a passport.

Children, dual citizens and green card holders

  • A child traveling with only one parent should carry a signed consent letter from the other parent, ideally notarized.
  • Dual citizens must leave and enter the U.S. on their U.S. passport.
  • Green card holders travel on their own passport and must carry their green card to return. Going away for a year or more? Apply for a re-entry permit (Form I-131) before you leave the U.S.

Common questions

Can A-1 help me with my visa?

Yes. When you book with us, we tell you which visa or document each traveler needs for your route and point you to the right official application. The visa itself is always decided by the embassy or the immigration officer.

My U.S.-born child is flying to Bangladesh. What do they need?

A U.S. passport and either a Bangladesh visa or the NVR seal. Children of a parent of Bangladeshi origin can get the NVR seal with a birth certificate that names that parent. Apply well before your trip. We have a full guide: NVR seal or visa for a U.S.-born child.

My parents have U.S. green cards and Indian or Bangladeshi passports. What do they need to fly home?

Their own passport, valid for the whole trip, and their green card to come back to the U.S. If they will stay away for a year or more, they should apply for a U.S. re-entry permit before leaving. We can explain it in Bangla, Hindi or Urdu.

Do I need a visa to connect in Istanbul, Doha or Dubai?

Usually not, if you stay inside the airport and your bags are checked through. If you have a long layover and want to leave the airport, or your bags are not checked through, the rules for that country apply. Ask us when you book.

How long should my passport be valid?

At least 6 months after you arrive in most countries. We suggest 6 months from your return date, with 2 blank pages, so there are no surprises at check-in.

How current is this page?

We checked every section against the official websites in September 2026. Rules and fees can change without notice, so always confirm on the official link before you travel.
